I was born and raised in Bellingham, WA and got into running when I was 19 because my dad ran a 1/2 marathon and if he could do it then so could I! When I got sober on December 27, 2015, I used running to help manage my sobriety. Running and sobriety go hand in hand that if you focus on putting in the work day to day over time you will see improvements. Some days were harder than others, but I kept putting one foot in front of the other. In my sobriety I became more consistent with running, and I discovered the trail and ultra marathon world, and I was hooked. In 2023 I completed my longest race yet, the Cocodona 250-mile ultra marathon in Arizona. People always ask me, “Why do you run so far?” My answer is simple. I LOVE spending time outdoors and in the mountains. I have had so much fun exploring the trails within Whatcom County and the longer I run the more I get to see and explore. We have amazing trails in Whatcom County, and I love that there is a trail out there for anyone at any level. If you need a recommendation on a good trail to hike or run in Whatcom County, I’m your person to ask! When I’m not training, I work as a Physical Therapist Assistant in Bellingham, and coach runners with Team RunRun. I also enjoy time with family, friends, and Dairy Queen blizzards!

Proudest Accomplishment:

Bio

I am a surfski paddler and student at Western Washington University. I grew up in Bellingham and started paddling when I was 11 years old with the Bellingham Canoe and Kayak Sprint Team at Lake Padden. Shortly after I started sprint kayaking, my dad started taking me out on the bay in a surfski and I really fell in love with paddling in the open water waves. Since then I have focused on surfski and have raced around the world including three World Championship events, winning the under 18 female division in 2019, finishing 2nd female overall at the 2021 surfski World Champs, and most recently winning the under 23 female division in 2022.

When I am not paddling or doing school work I also love mountain biking and trail running with my dog and using all the outdoor recreation space that Bellingham has to offer!

Proudest Accomplishment

Getting 3rd overall female at the 2022 Doctor, the most competitive ocean race in the world.

I started triathlon about 4ish years ago and fell in love instantly. I went from barely making 4th place in age group at Eagleman 70.3 in 2021 to winning my age group at 70.3 World Championships both 2022 and 2023. I recently took my elite license thru USAT, and I am racing as a professional athlete for 2024. I am also an avid trail running; almost as addicted to trails as I am triathlons!!!

I was born and raised in Bellingham, WA and I never really want to leave. I was active in sports my entire life and I got into running when I was 36 to stay active because some of the other sports were getting harder to find options for. I have grown to love it and the last few years I have been trying out the local Triathlons and Swimruns and I really like these races. I enjoy cycling, hiking, mountain trail running, swimming, fishing, and paddle boarding. My favorite activity is probably trail running but I really enjoy anything that gets me in the trails or on the water.

I have been married for 17 years and we have 3 kids. I enjoy coaching all three kids in their various sports so that keeps me quite busy when I’m not working. If I’m not working or playing with the family, you can probably find me in the Cascades running around, Fishing in the San Juans, or Paddling in one of the local lakes.

Favorite Local Place To Train

Stewart Mountain is my go to for running, Galbraith for mountain biking, and Padden for swimming!

I’ve been racing for 20+ years in triathlon and running events. I competed at Highline Community College and WWU in cross country and track. I also raced on the club cycling team at WWU. After college I raced as a professional triathlete and have continued to compete in the local circuit as well as a few destination races taking many podiums and overall wins along the way.

The 2024 primary goal is to return to full strength following a hamstring/hip injury last year. Once healthy the goal is to return to 10k to half marathon road and trail running racing.

When I’m not training, I work as a massage therapist and coach runners and triathletes with Team RunRun. I also enjoy yoga, paddle boarding and am a new dog dad.

I love being physically tired, though wrestling was my main sport through college I ran 2 marathons in high school. I did my first triathlon in 2000, and my first Ironman in 2002.  I did Ironman Coeur d’Alene in 2012 less than 6 months after having my left hip replaced, I had the right hip replaced in Jan of 2021.  Last season I did my 20th Ironman at Coeur d’Alene, after taking 4 seasons off.  I am usually a mid-pack athlete, but in 2017 at Ironman Arizona things went my way and I was 5th in my age group. In 2018 I raced Kona via the legacy program. Every Ironman effort is a big deal in my opinion.  The 4 that stand out are IMCDA 2012, 2023, IMAZ 2017, and Kona 2018.  This season I hope to joy ride, fun run, and pleasure swim to fitness, I’ll do as many local events as I can manage, the first big effort will the Chuckanut 50k. as a Thai Massage Bodyworker, I move all in and out of stretches and presses helping my athletes/clients/friends recover and prepare for more fun.

Hi! My name is Eric Olsen and I’m a 22-year-old mountain biker from Bellingham WA. You’ll most often find me on the local trails; riding with friends, filming, training, coaching, or helping someone with a trailside bike repair. When I’m not on my bike you’ll find me designing and manufacturing bike parts for my brand Jank Components or picking up gear at Fanatik Bike Co. I love our mountain bike community in Bellingham and I try to give back as much as possible to Vamos Outdoors Project and Galbraith Gravity Racing.

I’ve called Bellingham home since my days at WWU, and currently, I work for the Bellingham Fire Department as an analyst. Beyond my professional life, I’m blessed with an incredible family – two wonderful kids and an amazingly empathetic and supportive wife.
A decade ago, an ACL tear led me to discover triathlon as a form of rehabilitation and fitness. Swimming, biking, and running became not only tools for healing but also sources of passion and fulfillment.
Fast forward to today, and triathlon has become the focal point of my limited free time. While I primarily train for long-course events, I also enjoy challenging my speed in local short-course races. Balancing family, work, and my athletic pursuits keeps life exciting and fulfilling.
Favorite Local Place to Train

Whatcom and Skagit county roads are my favorite place to be on my bike.

I am a mom, wife, dentist, outdoor enthusiast, and endurance sports addict who has lived in Bellingham for 25 years. Though triathlon is my focus and also enjoy mountain, gravel and road biking, downhill and cross country skiing, trail running and hiking, and even kayaking. I like to be outside as much as possible and to have my family participate in all my endurance fun. Besides work and sport I spend a lot of time cheering on my 2 teenage sons who play competitive high school sports year round. I love to travel and have been to a lot of beautiful places, yet I’m always happy to get home because I think the Pacific Northwest is the best place to live.

I am an avid trail runner and climber who enjoys moving quickly through technical mountain terrain. I was born and raised in a small town in Pennsylvania and discovered my love for running at an early age. I ran track and field and cross country for Penn State. Since college, I have travelled around the United States using my running and climbing skills to elevate my love for adventure and exploring the mountains. I moved to the Bellingham area in September 2023 and am loving the trails and active running community. In my opinion, the best in the US! You can often find me running hill repeats on Pine and Cedar, or putting in big days in the mountains off Mt Baker Hwy!  I am focusing on sub-ultra trail racing in 2024 and will also be mixing in some technical mountain objectives.

Growing up here in Bellingham I always loved the outdoors, but I wasn’t much of an athlete until (by complete chance) I raced the kayak leg of the Ski to Sea my sophomore year of High School. I was really, really slow that year, but apparently something stuck because I immediately started building my own team for the next year and figuring out how to actually train for a paddling race. From there I quickly discovered Surfski and Sprint Kayak paddling and they quickly took over my life.

Fast forward 9 years to today and pursuing paddling has taken me around the world to Australia, South Africa, France, and hopefully many more amazing parts of the world – but Ski to Sea and all the amazing local events here in Bellingham still are some of the highlights of my year!

Hi, I’m Bennett.  I’m 12 years old and I love to bike, ski and run.  I prefer to bike with a friend, but even if I am by myself, I will have a blast.  I’m a very dedicated rider and I like to shred.  Lately I have been attending bike club at Whatcom Middle School where we take old bikes, fix them up them give them away to people in need of a good time on a bike, but can’t afford it.  When I am not riding you can find me hanging out with my friends scootering, skateboarding or playing ultimate frisbee.  I go up to the mountain to ski as much as I can.  I also love to run and enjoy frequent runs in Cornwall Park and the Galbraith winter race series when I’m not skiing.  I’m excited to be on this team!

Favorite Local Race

I would have to go with the Whatcom world cup because of all the amazing people and the fun trails. If you aren’t already doing them then I highly recommend you check them out.

From gymnastics to pole vaulting comes triathlon? I discovered a passion for bikes on a bike ride with my dad my freshman year of college. From then on endurance sport kept inching its way into my life. I decided that triathlon would be my next challenge. It’s been an awesome first couple of years and I am so excited to continue my journey with Pacific Multisports. Outside of the occasional outdoor rock climb, mountaineering or ski excursion with Andy Dewey, my passion is triathlon. In the winter, I like to do the local cyclocross series. During the spring, I love doing a couple of bike road races. They always get me excited for the triathlon season. I am so excited to represent Bellingham, Pacific Multisports and the young folks of triathlon this year!!

I was born in Africa, crazy enough, but unfortunately, the times in Zimbabwe weren’t great and my family had to basically flee to Ireland. Growing up in Ireland back then, meant that I had to learn to love soccer, or football as I call it. It soon became all that I ever wanted to do. After moving to the States during high school, I had just enough talent to compete at the college level. However,  during that time, I couldn’t get enough of sports in general and wanted to do every fitness event around. From 5kms, Tough mudders, and Marathons to Rock Climbing and Skiing in Colorado, I was addicted to heavy breathing. All I wanted to do was train. Then, after doing my first triathlon, I found the perfect sport that gave me the excuse to train all the time. So, I’ve slowly weaned off of soccer and am now a full-on triathlon addict, looking to compete at the highest level. From that addiction was born a Youtube channel called TheDailyTri, where I create videos around professional triathlon racing and where I hope to document more of my triathlon journey. The dream is to build enough of an audience and community to make it a full-time job. I’m halfway there as I now write for Triathlete Magazine and soon will be publishing my own triathlon website.

While born and raised in Canton, Connecticut, I made my way out to Bellingham in the Fall of 2022 enrolled as a first-year student at WWU. Despite only knowing a couple folks in the area and having visited once beforehand, I fully committed to the move and before I knew it, I had two bikes and seemingly all of my belongings crammed into my dorm room. Now, almost a year and a half later, I am proud to call Bellingham home.

The community of great people who love the outdoors and helping one another has shone through any sort of “dreary” PNW weather I had heard about, and it is one of my favorite parts about living in Bellingham. As a 21-year-old, I constantly search for how I can make a difference in my community and help those around me, which has brought me into coaching for Galbraith Gravity Racing, and in hosting group rides and helping with events through our WWU MTB club.
When I am not riding, I enjoy baking, cooking, reading, going to the gym, and getting outside. I have been racing since Covid hit and have fallen in love with the opportunities it provides for me to make new experiences, travel to see new people and places, and to learn more about myself and my capacity to adapt to new challenges.

Bio

I am a sprint kayak and surfski paddler attending the University of Washington. Growing up in Bellingham established an early and strong love for the outdoors. Throughout my childhood almost any free time was spent outside, mountain biking with my parents and hiking with friends in the vast local greenspaces. In 2013 I began sprint kayaking, and shortly after surfskiing, with the Bellingham Canoe and Kayak Sprint Team at Lake Padden. I was enamored with the feeling of being on the water and loved the freedom and confidence I had to explore different water ways in almost any conditions. Since 2013 I have continued to train in both sprint kayaking and surfski (although my primary focus is on sprint), competing at the local, national, and international level. In 2018 I first qualified for the US Junior National Team and am currently a member of both the US U23 and US Senior National Teams. Over my time competing I have achieved 12 national titles, four international podiums, and one American Record (MK2 500m).

When I’m not on the water I can be found studying Marine Biology and Chemistry at the University of Washington, skate skiing, hiking/backpacking, and cycling.

I moved to Whatcom County in 2008 and work as a DPT at Lynden Family Physical Therapy specializing in sports and running injuries. I am an assistant coach for both cross country and track at Lynden Christian High School and coach adults online. I am a member of the local club team the Bellingham Distance Project and I love to mentor and train with other runners.  After many years of road marathons, I switched to primarily trail running and focuses on 50k-100k distances. With my road & track background I prefer smooth, buttery singletrack over rugged mountain terrain.

I originally come from a road cycling background.  I’ve had success in multiple day stage races such as Baker City Classic and Cascade Classic.  I specialize in climbing and TTs.  In 2012 I started racing the road bike leg of Ski to Sea for Boomer’s Drive-In and have raced every year since.  I’ve been lucky to be part of the overall winning team three times and took top gun in 2022.

When I’m not on the road bike I enjoy running, gravel riding, and paddling.  Multiple sport events are great to keep training interesting and balanced.  In 2021 and 2022 I won the Big Hurt multiple sport race solo.  I didn’t race in 2023 but hope to be back in 2024.
When I’m not training, I’m a science teacher in the Bellingham School District.  I enjoy coaching youth sport such as track and XC.  I had the opportunity to coach youth athletes in XC at the regional and national level.

I grew up playing every sport I could get my hands on from age two all the way through my last day at UW (Go Dawgs!). Then, just like that, all aspects of competition in my life vanished: no more structure, no more outlet. As a very competitive individual, I stumbled into endurance sports not long after. One October day in the fall of 2020, I set out alone to see if I could burn 10,000 calories in one day. I biked my first ever century, swam my first ever mile, ran more than I ever had (20 miles), and was quoted as saying “I will never ever do that again.” upon completion.

Three months later my friend pointed out that I had come close to an Ironman and should have done more. I challenged him to do it with me, like a fool, claiming that maybe an Ironman is too easy and we should make it harder. So, like fools do, we decided to do it! And to add an additional 0.6 miles of swimming, 2 hour H.I.I.T. workout, and 6 mile mountain bike ride. Before training began, an idea started forming. I realized that if I was going to do it again, I may as well do some good with it. That day, my fundraiser was born.

Fast forward to 2024, and I’ve now completed 3 years of fundraising and calorie-burning. My fundraiser, Hunger vs Hunger has raised over $140,000 for the Bellingham Food Bank, and I’ve averaged 11,929 calories burned during my event days. I’ll continue Hunger vs Hunger as long as I can and am excited to see how it goes this summer! If you own/run a local business and want to join as a sponsor for the event, feel free to reach out.

When I’m not training or fundraising, I’m working as a Managing Broker at Bellwether Real Estate.

Dust’em are best adventure buddies, race partners, and life partners who love to adventure race together and have been since 2013. We both came from a running background, but have come to love all of the other amazing sports there are to be had in Bellingham! From paddling in the San Juans to climbing and skiing Mt. Baker- we love to do it all. Since we started adventure racing we have competed in over 8 expedition races around the world and numerous 24 hour races. Our main focus recently has been competing in the Adventure Race World Series circuit (expedition races) and the USARA National Championships (24hr races). Bellingham has been a perfect place for us to train since these competitions involve mountain biking, trekking, rappelling/climbing, mountaineering, whitewater paddling, kayaking, canoeing, other random activities, and most importantly- navigation and teamwork. All of these disciplines are easily accessed year-round here, which is awesome! When we are not training, racing, or adventuring, Emily works as a nurse and Dusty works for Pacific Multisports. We also love spending time with family and friends. We love the community we have here in Bellingham and are inspired daily by the people we see getting out on the trails and in our wonderful outdoor spaces! We feel so blessed to be a part of such a great community!

We are taking a step back from as many races in the coming year, but have plans to do a Staged Adventure Race in Canada in June and Dusty might compete in an expedition race in Oregon in the Fall. In between, we plan to get out in the mountains, in our boats, and on our bikes as much as possible!

Of course, we will both be involved in the local events happening this year in Whatcom County!
